     There are several different types of clasps that can be successfully used on metal frames.  Listed are a few of the most popular.

Ackers Clasp

Advantages:

  • Good support and bracing
  • Simple design
  • Does not distort easily
  • Easy to adjust
  • Contacts minimal area of the tooth
  • Good esthetics

 

 

T-Clasp

Advantages:

  • Small area of tooth contacted
  • Good esthetics on mandibular caines and premolars
  • Utilization of distal undercut prevents abutment from being traumatized in free-end extension partial dentures.

I-Bar Clasp

Advantages:

  • Good esthetics
  • Minimal tooth area contacted
  • Least interference with normal tooth contours

Reverse Back Action Clasp

Advantages:

  • Good bracing and support
  • May be used on free-end extension partial denture or removable bridges
  • Undercut adjacent to edentulous area may be utilized without having minor connector cross soft tissue

 
 


   

 

Wrought Wire Clasp

Advantages:

  • Good esthetics
  • Easy to adjust
  • More flexibility than cast arm - because it is round, it can flex in any direction
  • Minimal tooth surface contacted  - round wire forms line contact
